“Letter to Mom” is a poem and letter I wrote in form of a song to my
mom to celebrate Mother’s day, but I then decided to share it and
hope that it becomes a gift people would love to share to their
mothers as well. It is a slow tempo alternative Hip-hop track with a
blend of pop melody in the song hook.

Inspiration

I wrote the song in 2015 just about a week before Mother’s day, It
was the perfect way for me to express how I felt. I missed my mom
and was thinking about home a lot during that period, so I was in the
right mood to write. I couldn’t afford to send a gift back home at the
time, so I figured I’ll put my talent to use.

Writing Process

It is one of the fastest songs I’ve written because I was just pouring out my emotions. The first verse took about an hour. Since then, I’ve recorded over 18 versions of the song trying to find the one with the perfect right mix and tone, because I wanted to convey the right emotions in my verses. I was trying to convey the nostalgia, memories, and emotions somehow through sound. It’s crazy, but it’s really a feeling process. We revised the recordings over and over again and finally settled with this one. I knew it was it once I heard it.

Sharing

When writing albums, the most important thing for me is the story structure and how songs tie in together. I don’t want to share too much, but somehow, unplanned, the song fits in well with the rest of the songs I’ve been working on in album I’m working on. I’ve always really been into alternative Hip-hop, so it’s really consistent with the rest of my songs in terms of sound.
